Golf courses offer a unique combination of conditions that naturally support wireless charging deployment. Fleet vehicles operate on predictable schedules, return to centralized parking locations, and are used daily across large properties—creating an ideal use case for infrastructure that charges automatically without cables or manual intervention.

From Carts to Charging Networks
WiTricity’s flagship system, the MR/1, is designed specifically for light electric vehicle (LEV) applications, including golf carts. The system enables hands-free charging by transferring power wirelessly when a vehicle is parked over a charging pad.
This approach eliminates the need for plug-in charging, reducing wear-and-tear on connectors, minimizing user error, and allowing vehicles to remain consistently charged when needed. For golf courses managing dozens—or even hundreds—of carts, the impact can be significant.
Instead of relying on overnight charging cycles or manual plug-in routines, carts can opportunistically charge between rounds, helping maintain battery levels and extend operational readiness.
A Foundation for Broader Electrification
While today’s deployments focus on golf carts and light-duty fleets, the same underlying wireless charging technology is scalable.
WiTricity AI Tech has developed higher-power systems, including an 11 kW platform designed for passenger vehicles and larger electric fleets. While these systems are not yet deployed on golf courses, they point to a future where the same infrastructure principles could support a broader range of electric vehicles.
In such a scenario, golf courses could evolve beyond fleet charging hubs into fully integrated wireless charging environments—supporting maintenance vehicles, staff transportation, and even guest or visitor EVs.
Infrastructure Without the Friction
Traditional charging infrastructure often requires significant behavior change—drivers must remember to plug in, manage cables, and ensure proper connections. Wireless charging removes these steps entirely.
By embedding charging directly into parking areas, courses can deploy infrastructure that operates passively in the background, with minimal impact on daily operations.
This approach also introduces meaningful safety and cost advantages. Eliminating cables reduces trip hazards for staff and players, removes exposed connectors that can wear or fail over time, and minimizes the risk of damage from weather or improper handling. Wireless systems like the MR/1 are also designed to automatically stop delivering power once a battery is fully charged, helping reduce the risk of overheating or charging-related fire events.
In cart barns, removing the need for plug access can also allow for more efficient space utilization, enabling carts to be parked more tightly and maximizing available storage capacity.
From a total cost of ownership perspective, fewer moving parts and reduced maintenance requirements can help lower long-term operating costs while improving fleet uptime.
